Waterfall

Design C is a waterfall, to be ran along the center of the south side of the bridge. Placement is here because the south side is more industrial, and the pedestrian walkway is on the north side anyway, looking out over the river, the new apartments, and the lake. This design moves water, possibly grey water from a sub pump, up the large white columns, through irrigated garden hose, or punctured pvc pipes that line the length of the center of the bridge. The holes will create a stunning visual for passerby's, illuminated by lighting, and will enhance the experience of being on the bridge, under water and also above water. Lights on the water from the outside and inside will be used to enhance the space, from both perspectives. Using smaller hoses or pipe will ease the pressure needed, although if a firehose were used with precut pvc, a sheen of water could be created to be run at intervals during the event, much like a fountain show.

Design D is just a difference in placement from Design C, moving the emerging water from below the public space to above it, which I think is a much better place to have it coming from.

The waterfall reminds me of the postcard I made for the Bridge Project which has all these clouds, lightning bolts and raindrops coming out of the lower level. I'm not sure if it's possible to actually drop water from that height to the river and ground below, but I like the visual strength of things emanating from this newly enlivened space. Could water just be dropped from the ceiling of the space to the floor, in effect creating water glazing? Maybe something could then be projected onto this water screen. It would also introduce the sound of water into the bridge, affecting the feeling of the surrounding space. Maybe that could become a meditative, more reflective area combining some of the other proposals for seating and tea lights? (Too feng shui?)

This is one of the more imaginative of the ideas I saw. It builds upon and enhances the bridge structure and plays on the open space below and around the bridge. Would like to see some more developed renderings or examples of different types of installations.

Kickass bridge Honkie!
